Creating Nintendo Switch Art – Every Child is an Artist

My oldest: Mom, can we decorate my Nintendo switch?

Me: Sure son.

My oldest: Ok, I’m going to text you some photos. Can we order some paint pens?

Me: sure son. *Not sure what paint pens had to do with printing some pictures and using some modge podge to glue them to his device*

A couple days later…

My oldest: Mom, can we decorate the switch now?

Me: Sure son. Go print out the pictures.

Son: That’s cheating.

Me: *blank face* What?

Son: You have to draw it on there.

The pictures:

Me: Why in the world would you think I could draw these?

My oldest: Remember that one time I was making Pokémon cards and you drew that ______ (insert name of random Pokémon character here)

Me: *remembering* , son, we can try it but I can’t guarantee how it will turn out.

In the words of singer Jhene Aiko, “it ain’t perfect, but everything’s beautiful here.”

Furthermore, in the words of Connecticut 2022 Teacher of the Year, Kim King, “every child is an artist. The problem is remaining an artist once you grow up.”

May we teach all children to hold on to their inner artists.

When is the last time you talked in to your inner artist?
